I was out skiing yesterday and am not sure that I have ever had such a cold bum (well, not since new year’s day anyway).   Welch Village near Red Wing, MN does not have any kind of cushion on their chair lifts and that makes for some VERY cold cheeks.

Hours later, even after driving home with seat warmers in the car, I started to get some circulation going, but seriously…. you would have to touch it to believe it.

I’m talking serious MN COLD.

The upside of it is that when the sun is out and you can see every little bit of terrain, you feel like you can go faster, and when it is that cold out you pretty much have the hill to yourself on a weekday morning.

So my cold butt and I skied….

and it was worth it.

I have to admit that it’s kind of a relief to me to have these spells of warm and cold weather.  Last time I posted I was sad that we had balmy weather.. but we only had two days of warm vs. the two weeks we’re now having in the near zero range.  I even knew that the cold was coming and I still posted about warm.

I need a new topic.  There will be lots of time to talk about the weather in the nursing home.

So says me.

Winter warm ups…

January 9, 2008

Just a few weeks ago, as the new year approached, I was struggling to recollect what we did for new years eve last year.  Being the resourceful one that I am, I went back to my journal and took a peak to see if I had said.

Turns out that last year I could have cared less about the turning of the year.  What had me all in a dither was that the weather was beyond tepid and into downright warm.  My snow was melting, it was raining and I was HUGELY disappointed.

We had some 40 degree days here in the last week and of course got rained on a little bit at the ski hill.

Luckily for me, I’m still learning in each year (not much, but every morsel counts)… and somewhere in the midst of last year learned that tomorrow might bring a huge snow dump of more than a foot, and that I should not despair over melting snow.

We’ve not had our snowstorm yet to make up for balmy winter weather; however, today it is cold again…

and so I ski.
